Y5 Redevelopment of Rochdale Train Station
The aim with this project was to create a sense of arrival and meeting place that invited the visitor to explore the town. I proposed embracing and enhancing the existing ecologies, by transforming the abandoned territories within the station. Additionally, the existing elevated station is like an acropolis which creates views towards Rochdale’s town centre. The canopy and proposed building blocks are orientated to create direct views to the town centre landmarks, guiding visitors towards them. I proposed reflective cladding over the existing station to enhance the surrounding natural habitat. Moreover, I have added two new platform buildings, housing a large café and waiting room with a kiosk to cater for a higher number of commuters through Rochdale.
