Y5 Residential Scheme: Rochdale
We started this project by agreeing on masterplan rules so that each person could design their site accordingly. I chose the southern end site, which is bounded to the north with a straight urban front facing the pedestrian road and a complex organic shape towards the south which faces the rail tracks. This resulted in two different ways of treating the fronts, where one is more rigid and private and the other permeable and organic, surrounded by vegetation which acts as a buffer for noise and pollution. The scheme was designed following the GLA design guide. I worked on different possible arrangements to achieve double aspect flats which is believed to be more beneficial. This lead me to design individual blocks which can be arranged like a tetris with 6 different typologies.
